Formation of the Burlington Recreation Commission
The Charter resolution to form the Recreation Commission passed by the USD 244 Board of Education on June 9, 1969. The vote was made possible through a resolution drawn up by the USD 244 Board of Education in accordance with state statutes.
The Burlington Recreation Commission is an autonomous governmental body governed by a five-member board. The board is appointed by the school board (four members) and an at-large appointment.
Mission Statement
The Recreation Commission is set up to address the total recreational needs of the community on a year-round basis. It is our hope that we can improve the quality of life for all ages through a varied program of leisure activities.

Notice - Open Board Positions
The USD 244 School Board and USD 244 Recreation Commission are seeking interested individuals to fill two open positions on the USD 244 Board of Commissioners. The terms for these positions will run from July 2024 - June 2028. Interested parties should fill out the application, that is linked below, and return to the Recreation Center by Monday, June 3rd
